Appendix B : Implementing ARIES on RPVM

چکیده

Moving pages that are not backed up on real NVRAM to disk-based storage and ensuring that they are accessible will involve at least one I/O, if not more. As a result, the I/O performance of a BPDB that attempts to exploit NVRAM may even be worst than a similar BPDB system that does not do so if the amount of NVRAM available is less than that assumed by the former system. This performance anomaly may be due to two reasons. First, a page may be propagated to NVRAM instead of regular nonvolatile storage to avoid performing one write I/O. Doing so may incur more than one write I/O operation on the average as a result of pages being moved from NVRAM to the disk. The resultant number of I/Os incurred in this way can become greater than the number avoided by writing to the NVRAM. Second, the availability of fast NVRAM may result in pages being propagated there more frequently and freely without using special techniques that delay and group writes to reduce I/O costs. If less NVRAM is allocated, then these propagations may actually involve I/O operations that write to the disk, further increasing overall I/O costs.

Does the Appendix Location Change During Pregnancy?

Background: Early diagnosis of appendicitis is important during pregnancy.  Unlike omentom, cecum and appendix are not likely to be displaced by the growing uterus, so the concept of position change of the appendix during pregnancy is questionable. Objective: To determine the anatomical location of appendix during pregnancy. Methods: In a prospective study from October 1995 to March 1999, 291 w...

Implementing Performance Competitive Logical Recovery

New hardware platforms, e.g. cloud, multi-core, etc., have led to a reconsideration of database system architecture. Our Deuteronomy project separates transactional functionality from data management functionality, enabling a flexible response to exploiting new platforms. This separation requires, however, that recovery is described logically. In this paper, we extend current recovery methods t...

Both Nonstructural Proteins 1 and 2 of Pneumonia Virus of Mice are Inhibitors of the Interferon Type I and III Response In Vivo

1 Infection of mice with pneumonia virus of mice (PVM) provides a convenient experimental 2 pathogenesis model in a natural host for a human respiratory syncytial virus-related virus. 3 Extending our previous work showing that the PVM-NS proteins were pathogenity factors in 4 mice, we identify both the NS1 and NS2 proteins as antagonists of interferon (IFN)-α/β and 5 IFN-λ by use of recombinant...

ACUTE APPENDICITIS DUE TO METASTASIS OF PROSTATIC CARCINOMA

A 70 year old male presented with right lower quadrant pain and anorexia for about 72 hours prior to hospital admission. He underwent laparotomy with impression of acute appendicitis. The operative finding was an inflamed tumoral appendix without appendicular base involvement, and appendectomy was done. The patient had an uneventful post-op course. Due to the pathology report of prostatic ...

On the Current State of Open MPI on Cray Systems

Open MPI provides an implementation of the MPI standard supporting native communication over a range of high-performance network interfaces. Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) and Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) collaborated on creating a port for Cray XE and XK systems. That work has continued and with the release of version 1.8 Open MPI now conforms to MPI-2.2 and MPI-3.0 on Cray XE, ...
